On Jan 3rd The Spirt creator and artist Will Eisner passed away, and the comic world is still grieving his passing. To those of you who may not know much about the man or his legacy, here is a little back ground. long before Superman, Batman or the X-men, Will Eisner created one of the 1st superheros. In 1937 The Spirt was a house hold word, as well known as spider-man or wolverine is now. You see every major newspaper in the United States inserted a Spirt comic in the sunday edition. The New York Times, Detroit Free Press, Chicago Tribune just to name a few. He started the 1st art studio, and gave the first jobs to people like, Jack Kirby (creator of Capt. America, Hulk, Thor and many more.) Joe Seagle (the co creater of Superman) and Bob Kane(who created Batman) and hundreds more. Will Eisner later had awards named after him for the best comic every year, (The Eisner) and Will Eisners Spirt of the community, for the comic shop that did the most charity work. I could go on for pages, but a more fitting tribute would be to read some of his fine stories. also wizard has a great story on his life in both #161(before he passed on) and #162. Farewell Will Eisner, you will be missed.
