thats kind of a vague statement. any card in mtg could be a good, or great card, in the right setting. there isnt really any cards that come to mind as super crappy...not that i havnt seen somebody put and make work in a deck. personally, i think the block w/ the least amount of crap is all the urza sets...but thats just me. u cant really say wat the best card is...cuz u could put a black lotus in a black deck and that deck might really blow...actually ive seen it several times. there are some cards that are really easy to slip into any deck...but they are few and usually equipment or artifacts. i dont know magic is a hard game to explain...you can build a really quick nasty white deck for $3.00 that can smoke up on a $2,000 dragon deck anyday. magic is more about matchups then better cards. anybody can spend a bundle to build an unstoppable black deck...only to get anihilated by a $10 white deck. matchups, matchups, matchups...its the name of the game.

the best way to learn to play is to buy a preconstructed deck (wal-mart, shop-ko or a card shop) these run about $11.00-13.00 at walmart or shop-ko and $5.00 to 12.00 at a card shop. white and green are usally the easiest to learn to play. generally black is distruction (kill opponent and his creatures) white is small creatures and healing, green is big creatures and restore life, red is land distruction and my favorite blue is to screw with your opponet. colors can be mixed and matched. a 10 cent terror card will distroy a $20.00 dragon card, so its how you construct your deck, not always how much you pay. i have a mostly common blue and white PING deck which works like this, pyscic venom does a point to you when ever you tap (X4) a land , prod sorceror and which hunter each do 1 point of damage to you per turn (4 of each) and balisti does 2 points per turn (x4) they can not be blocked. if i have them all out with my icy minipulator i will do you 22 points of damage per round (you start with 20 and lose if you hit zero) these are all cheap cards, the whole deck would cost 12 or 13 dollars.

ive put decks toghether, or helped put decks together, for under $10.00 that own some expensive decks. its all about matchups. u just have to know wat you are doing, and develop a stategy for the cards u have. the best rounded colors are probably blue and white...they are hard to just own pased on the color of deck your getting played by.
